So you have a website but your not getting as many calls as you would like. The biggest mistake I see all the time, is website owners who want more calls and just start changing things on their site. Or they have friends and other businesses in the same market take a look at their website and offer advice. That is a horrible mistake.
First off, make this a rule of thumb. If the person offering you website advice, does not lead off by first asking you what your conversion rate is, then do not listen to them. The conversion rate would be how many people come to your site, versus how many people complete the action you want. So let’s say you need phone calls since that is the title of this article. We look and see that 25 people visited your site this month. Then you look at your records and see that 5 people called you. That means you have a 20% conversion rate. That is a really awesome conversion rate. If most of your marketing was coming from Google Analytics, for example, the average conversion rate is usually somewhere between 1-5%. If you are hitting 20%, that tells us that your website is doing a great job at converting visitors into callers. In other words, don’t start changing your website around.
Going back to the beginning of the article now, what we are trying to do is increase calls. If you just jump into changing your site around without knowing how it is converting, you might be making changes to a site that is working great. Using our example, the problem is not that your website doesn’t convert that well. The problem is that you are only getting 25 people to your site a month and that is nothing.
So now you know you can save your time, don’t mess with your website. Put your focus on driving more people to your site. With a 20% conversion rate, you will be making good money in no time if you just increase your marketing. Really, once you know your site is converting really well, it is at that time that you should really feel safe and start pumping money into marketing and driving people to your high converting site. If they come they will call, so get to marketing.
Final thought and just a recap. Don’t listen to people who have advice about your site but don’t care about your conversion rate. They are obviously basing their advice on opinions and thoughts. Statistics and conversion rates don’t lie. Don’t change something that isn’t broken.
